Doc Honour on South Padre Island, not too different than the subtropical beaches around Timpi in the country of Verdant Prime.
Who Am I?
Iconoclast, polymath, and author. I’ve been reading science fiction since the latter days of the Golden Age, when Heinlein, Asimov, Pohl, and Bradbury were the names and John W. Campbell still edited Analog magazine. I remember going to the library at NAS Jacksonville, FL as a young teen, spending hours buried in the scifi shelves absorbing the fascinating scent of the future.
Now I’m working a fourth career describing the future. I’ve been part of making that future happen. I was a Navy pilot during the Cold War, led engineering teams to build intelligence systems that could prevent war, and taught over 500 courses to pass on my knowledge to those behind me. Along the way, there was a PhD in systems engineering from the University of South Australia—hence, “Doc.” I’ve traveled enough to have seen all 50 United States and 34 other countries.
I twist all that experience into the science fiction I write and have started getting recognition. (See the Recognition link.) I’ve always been fascinated with how scifi can hold a mirror to today’s problems and teach us new knowledge while entertaining us.
When you read my stories, expect to see yourself. Also expect to learn something new.
